Dare2BDigital - A yearly online learning competition, powered by Drupal

Dare2bDigital pioneers the Internet use of game and reality TV show concepts bringing together students, educators, institutions, sponsors and a public audience for a fun and entertaining live event exploring online learning.

This online event is a collaborative project among British Columbia’s public post-secondary institutions. It is designed to showcase some of the innovative online learning technology and techniques available today. The game is hosted by BCcampus, BC’s public post-secondary online learning gateway. BCcampus is a unified online resource allowing institutions across the province to share in applied research, funding, services, technologies and tools that help them provide more effective and efficient online services to their students.

Season One of Dare2BDigital is wrapped up last March (1st prize was MacBooks for all) and they are ramping up for Season Two. Great prizes, great for learners, all enabled by the power of Drupal.

High Level Information Architecture

- "Seasons" have one-to-many "Challenges"
- "Challenges" have one-to-many "Submissions"

- "Users" can be in one-to-many "Teams"

Custom Modules Used

- A few custom nodes for Seasons, Challenges and Submissions for each Challenge.
- Custom code to managed time-based permissions, and team permissions through the node_access table.
- Custom lightweight activity feed module.

Modules Used

- Extensive use of Nodefamily to define relationships
- JRating / VotingAPI - for everyone to vote on submissions
- SWFCharts for Moderator and Judges to monitor submissions
- Abuse Module
- Admin Menu
