New install of D6.6, trying to get the image module working.

I have the image module installed. When I go to Administer-Site Configuration-Images-Image Import, I have a message that says that sites/default/files/images/import does not exist.

I have tried to create this directory with both Filezilla and FileManager in Cpanel and both times get the message that permission is denied to create the directory. I changed the permissions on both the files and the images directory to 777 and chose to have permissions recurse to subdirectories, but still no luck.

I am just trying to be able to add an image to a Page post.

I've searched and haven't found anything to answer this question.

While it doesn't really answer my question, I did find how to add images to content using the Image module. After a lot of searching, I discovered that I had to enable image uploading in the content types that I wanted it in. Not what I'd call intuitive, but hey, at least now it's working!
