limite the amount of nodes created per content type

I've been having lots of fun with this module, but Im a bit stumped on this one. I want to limit the amount of nodes created per content type. It seems that drupal gives each new node a unique id in a sequential order regardless of its type. So Im not sure how I would go about creating some php code to discern the node count in just a specific content type.... Any help?
