While there are many options built in to the module, none of the encoding sizes for thumbnails, video, etc. are actually the ones my company uses.

It would be great if there could either be user-generated encoding options, or simply more/different options.

The service provides a number of formats for delivery. If there's a format that's missing, please send a message to support@workhabit.com with the formats that you need and we will look into it.

I'm not speaking of encoding formats, necessarily - I'm speaking largely of sizes.

All our videos are 450x320, for instance - we don't like them tiny!

And on the issue of thumbnails, we use more than one size thumbnail on content - a frame-sized thumbnail, used in the player and occasionally elsewhere, a "medium" sized image for placing in showcases/carousels, or featured sections, and small thumbnails for search listings, etc.

Looks like we get one size option for video, and one thumbnail per video.

You can edit the sizes in the cdn2.module file. I agree, though, that the sizing options should be in the Admin CP like Kaltura's module.

There may be (sort of) standards for video sizes, and provided you have decent quality videos, you can fudge the size of the player window a bit, but different sites use different sizes for their thumbnails. Thumbnails are not just used inside players - they're also used throughout sites in listings, promos, admin utilities...

Also, as I've touched on in other places, often you want the site admin to determine the formats for video and sizes for thumbnails - not the user. But the way the module is set up, if you don't give the end-user the ability to turn various formats on and off, their video is not transcoded with those formats.

Argh!

Hi - I editted the sizes in the cdn2.module file.... that was to size the output object however. What I would like to see is the ability to send size parameters to the transcoder (ffmpeg??) to create a larger video size, so the video stays very crisp. Is this possible?

In order to simplify the experience for users, we had to restrict the transcode options to specific formats. That being said, this feature is something that has been requested by several customers (e.g. an advanced tab allowing one to specify width, height, and possibly quality options).

We're currently investigating this as a possibility. Stay tuned for more info.

Would it be possible to change the transcode options to a larger size (say width of 600 or so?) and then if people want smaller video can display them smaller with no loss of quality. Then you could make a lot more people happy!

That would be really great! Some constriction might be good, perhaps adding a 640x480 and maybe one of the 16:9 optimal ratios...
