Content area is too narrow

I have a very-very-very strong proposal to make content area wider, because it's impossible to use some parts of the site, for example - forum. There is a place for only ~10 symbols for a topic name. Same problem occurs with horizontal lists, it's simply not enough space for them and they overlaping the sidebar.

The ideal solution is to convert existing fixed design to fluid, because in my opinion 500px of witdth is to small. In other words, with the current width it's impossible to use this theme beyond front page in real case scenarios.
