Tracking on number of hits on external link

Hi,

Statistics module help to log the hits on internal links...but it does not help in hits on external link...Is there any simple module through which I can achieve this..???Or anything I can develop or make changes to already existing one and get it done..??I tried Google Analytics but it needs Account No and your website domain address which i don`t have because i haven`t developed it yet..I installed Firestats but don`t know which path it is asking for..When i click on that link it just gives me one palin text file and nothng else..
Can anybody help me to solve my issue..
