the above code works except it doesn't appear to generate click statistics when a hot spot is clicked.. is there any way of doing so?

Proper support of image maps will require the creation of a new ad_type module -- each mapping will need to link to a redirect path so that the ad module can properly track clicks...

Moving into a postponed state until someone comes along with interest and patches.
