Module Weblink: Some Feature Suggests
xeniac - October 26, 2005 - 01:42
I tried the Weblink Module today and had some ideas to improve it.
I'm new to Drupal and don't know if it is the "right Drual Way" to integrate my Ideas into the Core Weblinks Module. So i want do discuss my Ideas in the Forums before i post a feature request in the Bugtracker.
Check broken Links
- Add a Cronjob that checks the HTTP Code of every Linknode.
- Links with a Code other than 200 OK will be tagged as moderate
- A Field "errorcode" would be nice, so that we know why the weblink has gone offline
- cron should check the broken weblinks and activate them if the gone back online.
Cons: testing weblinks needs bandwith and plenty of time.
Google PageRank
Google provides a library on code.google.com that makes this task very easy.
This feature makes the most sense when you start a big weblink directory.
i wrote a weblink directory with pagerank support a few month ago, you can try it out on http://www.animanga.at/index.php?mod=webdir (german)

I believe the weblinks
I believe the weblinks module is to be discontinued in favour of a new links bundle for drupal.
Any News to this?
Hi,
I am interested in building a weblink directory based on Drupal too. Think the Weblink Modul is the one to Start with (or is there a better one for a link directory?). I am wondering if there is a solution for Checking broken links now. And is there mod to display the Sites Pagerank for the Link? There is a nice Pagerank Checker Modul available:
http://drupal.org/project/google_pr
Is it posible to use this with the weblink Modul so it displays the current Pagerank of sites in the Weblink list? Or is there still somebody working on this?
Best Regards.

"You can use Janode to create your own web directory. Janode also periodically checks each http:// link for 404 errors. Any Janodes with a 404 error are put into a moderation queue for investigation."
