I'm the guy who wrote and maintains the Drupal contributed module: OG User Roles. http://www.drupal.org/project/og_user_roles. I've worked very, very hard to keep this module working correctly, updated, and up to Drupal standards. I also do my darndest to respond to issues as quickly as possible.
A group called "Do It With Drupal" recently sponsored a Drupal conference in New Orleans this past December. http://www.doitwithdrupal.com. I noted in the pdf of the session on "Organic Groups" on December 11, 2008, "OG User Roles" earned specific mention as an OG contributed module that is "Not recommended". http://www.doitwithdrupal.com/files/slides/Organic%20groups%20Do%20it%20...
I don't recall ever hearing from anyone from this group about OGUR. So, in the interests of tryng to do better, I'd like this note to be passed along to whomever made the recommendation to not recommend, with the question "Why?"
The module is not perfect, and certainly has it's problem. The code needs to be brought up to Drupal standards, I know that for sure. But, the module has also delivered what it was designed to do, and done so for well over a year. And, it burns me up to hear criticisms from folks who've never lifted a finger to help or offered a constructive suggestion of any kind or even bothered to communicate with me in any way.
If there's something terribly, terribly wrong with the module, I'd like to know. Perhaps it's something I can work on so that maybe one day it could be recommended. I am willing.
So, I'd like to hear from anyone who has a constructive comment and/or sugggestion on the subject.
Thanks!
