Having the ability to distribute your media to multiple sites such as YouTube, Blip.tv, Flickr, SoundCloud, Internet Archive, etc., in addition to the Kaltura network, would be a great feature for content producers. ariel_hitron commentedGus, thanks for your input.
could you elaborate more about your needs that this feature should solve?
here are some guiding questions:
* why do you want to host your media in several sites simultaneously ?
* What kind of content are you planning to host? (advertising , music clips, etc ...)
* Is it important for you to get the statistics (views count at the minimum) from the various locations in an integrated manner?
Currently the share functionality of the Kaltura player allows you to embed the player directly to your account in several social networks , such as myspace, facebook , bebo , blogger, etc'. could this give a solution to some of the functionality you require?
Ariel.

avpadernoI think there is already a module which allows to show a video from YouTube (and others web sites) in a node; actually there are two modules, which do the same task in different ways (Embedded Media Field is a CCK module, and Embed Filter is a filter module).
To avoid conflicts, I would leave the project like it is now, and let it do what it does better.

gusaus commentedTake someone like an indie musician whose ONLY website is MySpace. They'd be much better off if there was an easy way to upload, distribute, manage and monetize their music. There are services that do this in varying degrees http://www.snocap.com/, http://8tracks.com/, http://www.last.fm/uploadmusic, http://soundcloud.com/, but you still need to get your music in their system (if you know they exist). Similarly, video services such Youtube, Blip.tv, and Vimeo have very active communities and valuable opportunities to have their content discovered and syndicated.
Another use case might be for a provider that like the import/publisher features of Kaltura, but already has their content hosted somewhere else. It would be idea if they could use Kaltura to upload to their provider.
Statistics would be nice, but I'm thinking there would be no easy to do that.

Thanks!

boris mann commentedActually, this was the killer feature of the Twistage module -- http://drupal.org/project/twistage. Syndication to Blip.TV and YouTube.
* why do you want to host your media in several sites simultaneously ?
The use case for cross posting is audience. The purpose is to get your content as widely viewed as possible -- whether or not it has advertising. It's up to the content producer to embed text / links / whatever to drive traffic back to the original.
* What kind of content are you planning to host? (advertising , music clips, etc ...)
Any content that you want viewed by the widest possible audience.
* Is it important for you to get the statistics (views count at the minimum) from the various locations in an integrated manner?
Statistics are a bonus, but not necessary.
YouTube is probably the number one need. Twistage Syndication also published an iTunes compatible video cast feed, which also seems like a "nice to have".

gusaus commentedThanks Boris! Didn't know about Twistage - I'll add that and the use cases to this thread - http://groups.drupal.org/node/16846
It also looks like Aaron and some of the folks in the Drupal Media Code sprint are working on a homegrown solution - http://aaronwinborn.com/blogs/aaron/media-code-sprint-january-2008
Not sure when the Kaltura community edition will be release, but it certainly looks like there are ingredients for a lot of powerful solutions.
Would be great to have the Kaltura folks involved in these discussions and sprints!

Zohar.Babin commentedSyndication is already possible through Kaltura (Syndication tab in KMC).
Upcoming Kaltura release will include distribution.
We need to review how and if it will be relevant to also create a UI for the Drupal administration, or just send the user (who's probably going to be an Admin anyway) to the Kaltura Management Console for setting up the distribution (YouTube and likes) and syndication (iTunes and likes) flows.
