This issue was a bit more complex than I thought. I had to do some major changes to the theme, one of which was rename the sidebar block region to right, which is a default location. That way I was able to setup the body classes and ids for each page and whether or not a sidebar was enabled or not. Look for this fix in the 6.x-2.0 release.
