When is Drupal 7 available? Is it better to wait for version 7 than to upgrade to version 6 from version 5.

Drupal has one major shortage compared to Joomla. Joomla is better designed for upgrades and language installations among other things.

Will Drupal 7 have more automated version update system than the current releases?

According to Dries (the leader of the Drupal project) in a recent blog post:

I predict that Drupal 7 will be released in the fourth quarter of 2009.

I was wondering that too. Glad to hear Drupal 6 will still be arround for some time.

Not upgrading to 6 and waiting for 7 means you're very very very happy with 5. Which is ok. But Drupal 6 kicks Drupal 5's butt.

Yes and no. This is a question of resources; some organizations just don't have the funding to keep up with the version treadmill. It's particularly an issue if you use a rather customized theme and a lot of contrib and in-house modules. This is why I am also considering skipping from 5 to 7.
