I see that a fair amount of work has gone into the D6 branch recently. I'm especially interested in the real time cropping feature mentioned on the project page. Unfortunately I'm stuck on a Drupal 5 installation for now, with no upgrade to D6 in sight until the end of 2009! I'm sure I'm not the only one in this kind of position.

Will these modifications and improvements be backported to the 5.x branch at all/anytime soon?

The real time cropping can be ported to 5.x, as its stands by itself, and do not depend on 6.x code.

However, I did not plan to work on the 5.x code, besides bug fixes. I do have work to do on the 6.x versions of the modules I maintain, and this by itself does not leave enough time for this.

Are you able to fund the development of this feature? Let's see if other people also express interest in this.

unfortunately I am not in a position to be able to give any funding. Anyway, I decided to bite the bullet and make the switch to Drupal 6! All seems to be working nicely with the exception of #355980: Fields unavailable on D5 -> D6 upgrade :)
