Drop Down Menu problems with Marinelli Theme

davedg629 - January 7, 2009 - 17:14

Just installed the Marinelli Theme (Version 6.x-2.6) to my Drupal 6 website. I went to set up the cool primary links drop down menus that are showcased in the live demo and I can't get them to work correctly.

The first newbie mistake is not checking the "expanded" box next to the parent menu item. So I made sure I have the "expanded" box check next to the parent menu item that I want to drop down (call it Menu Link A).

After I saved the settings I went to check out the menus but the arrow that indicates the menu is a drop down is not showing when I mouse over Menu Link A.

To make the menu work, I have to first click on Menu Link A. This makes the menu expand in a very odd manner. The menu is pushed up and I can't even scroll up to where it is being displayed.

Then I click on any other menu item and the drop down menu works perfectly after that page loads (until I clear my temporary internet files then its messed up again).

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I'm pretty sure the "expanded" settings are correct. Thanks.

O and the problem occurs in both IE7 and Firefox.

Got it

Okay, I was also using dhtml menus which was creating the problem. In order to make my drop down menu work (which is the primary links menu in my case) I had to check the "Menus without DHTML" box for primary links in the dhtml settings page. Now they work perfectly!

drop down not working like demo

I'm relatively new to Drupal. I am working on custom theme which borrows the back-end from the Marinelli theme. The only major change I've made to the navigation is that I now have it positioned absolutely. My problem is that no matter what I've tried I can't get it to show the drop down arrows. Also the sub navigation (i.e. plinks ul li ul li) show display inline instead of as a block as they do on the Marinelli demo page.

I've copied all of the relevant parts from the Marinelli folder into my theme folder including the js library, img folder, all stylesheets, template.php and theme-settings.php but still the menu is not working. Here is a link to the "theme in progress." http://mccoolmediainc.com/~ctkevvo/

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Anyone figure this out

Anyone figure this out definitively? I am having a devil of a time!

I had the same problem...

I had the same problem until I noticed at the bottom of my web browser, in the status bar, a notification of error in the page. The problem was the module simplemenu, even when simplemenu is not active it seems to add some code that conflicts with the drop down effect of the main menu in Marinelli. For me the solution was removing the module simplemenu. If you don't have simple menu between your modules, then make sure no other module is conflicting.
Hope it helps.
