Imagefield is not validated as "required"

I have a required imagefield in my content profile, but when using content profile fields on registration the imagefield can be left empty. It has an asterix like the other required fields, but it doesn't seem to check it.

I apologize if I am following incorrect protocol by reopening this, but based on your response to it it seemed like what you wanted. I can confirm that this is indeed a problem. When you say that it is an old issue does that mean that the newer releases shouldn't be having this problem? I just upgraded to the beta-4 version (also tried the dev) and registration can still be completed without uploading an image.
