Are there any plans to allow imagecache actions for the embedded image fields, so we can use the power of imagecache (and its various image modifier actions) on embedded images? As this would allow to store imported images locally, I can imagine it might infringe copyrights of the 3rd party providers.

this is available in the dev version: you need to install embedded media thumbnail and imagecache.
