It would be nice if there was a straightforward way to send a test email. Often this is desirable, for example to make sure the HTML formatting will be well well in various clients before a message is sent to loads of people.

Take a look at the Reroute Email module. I turn it on and off as needed just for this purpose.

I have a category setup for testing that has only my own address(s) in it and that only I am able to send to (through permissions).
