Facebook-style Statuses - Alternatives.

nimzie - January 9, 2009 - 14:39

I've tried out the Facebook-style Statuses module. It's great. Except one thing. Saving a status forces a complete page refresh.

I know people must be doing FB Style statuses on social networking sites. How are they doing them with proper form (a la ajax submissions)?

Any tips?

Cheers,

Adam

I'm the FBS developer and I'm working on a 2.x version that will use AHAH to update statuses.

To the best of my knowledge there are no alternatives at this time unless you use the Heartbeat module (which has a sub-module called "Shout" I believe which does something similar). However, once I get the FBS 2.x branch out, I'm going to ask the Heartbeat developer to retire the Shout module.

Have you got any timeline on

Have you got any timeline on the new module? Sounds very cool. Thanks for this all!

I don't know how long it will be right now. It depends very much on how much other work I have, so anywhere from three weeks to three months for a beta.

I should probably add that in the future, rather than ask/look for a different module, the best idea is to issue a feature request on the module in question. (Don't worry about that now though.)

The 2.x branch should be stable now

and JavaScript submissions work as of alpha 4. I don't recommend you use it on a production site until beta since it hasn't been heavily tested but ATM it's working great for me and beta shouldn't be too far away.
