I stumbled upon this problem when upgrading to 6.x. The site have some @drupal.org users, and they can no longer login. I searched but only found some deeply-buried issues about drupal.module moved to contrib in 6.x.

I suggest we add some documents on site_network.module. Any maybe add some reminder on 6.x upgrade page, that if you used drupal.module for external authentication, then you may need to install site_network.module?

Yep, we should flag that info for people on the upgrade page for sure. Re: documenting the contrib module, there is an issue to give more direction on core modules per version (#334316: Create a core modules list per versions page?).

Is the site referenced above (http://drupal.org/node/340073) the official 5.x to 6.x upgrade page? If it is, why is it merely a page in the "Videos and Slides" section of the Beyond the Basics handbook? How would anyone find it there?

I don't know if we have a more official page... I looked in the "Upgrading" section of the Getting Started guide http://drupal.org/upgrade/ , and I don't see anything very specific there for 5.x to 6.x, except a link to a videocast http://drupal.org/videocasts/upgrading-to-6

Maybe we should move the Upgrading page above to the Upgrading section of the Getting Started guide, and then think about making it more complete?

Thoughts?

Hm, that totally doesn't belong there since there isn't a video on the page. I've moved it to the GS guide Upgrade secton, but we should review it in comparison to the main section and the D6 minor upgrade howto and make sure things are consistent and generally good to go.

I have added this information to the Upgrade page (and also did a heavy style/grammar edit of the page, which it really needed). http://drupal.org/node/340073
