search from zip code variable

Hi, this is my first support request for this and any other module so if I do something wrong, please be nice to me, I'm very fragile... just kidding, but do let me know as I would like to stay within protocol.

I am wondering if this is possible:
I have another module that stores locative information (not with the location module) and I would like to extract the zip code variable from that data and have a search result showing events within x miles/km from that zip code.

Here's a scenario: User visits the location page on the site and that location has a zip code of 01201. The search result would show any events within x miles.

Any input here would be very much appreciated.
