Hello, I am using this template and it is great! However I need to know if it is possible, to add an image next to the primary links (site navigation, home, forum, etc).

Do you mean adding an icon next to each of the main links in the green tabs along the top of the theme?

This is a bit tricky and not a specific Acquia Marina issue.
Perhaps you can find help in the forums or in #drupal-support or #drupal-themes on IRC

I found this Adding images to secondary links and even though it's for Secondary Links the process is similar for Primary Links
