I know you can force separate input types for user type. I need to force input types for different node types. Reason being, we have one node type that displays entirely as a pre, and we need to use a separate input, one that doesn't automatically break lines, but we only need it for that one node type. How would we go about this?

That said, perhaps the http://drupal.org/project/filterbynodetype module is what you're looking for?
