Dear drupal development folks

I need to following functionality:

I have some nodes of "events" which contain their own 'event start-end' date field. I don't want the search engine to display events which have already ended. Is there any easy way to do this, if not, what's the hard way. It would be great if I could have a checkbox bellow the search field like "Display events that have already ended"...

And this comment on a post by Robert Douglass hints at a way you could do the checkbox you mentioned.
