Images don't display when not logged in

Issue Summary

I'm taking a deep breath before asking this, and I apologize if this isn't the proper place, but as with so many modules, I don't see a palce for general support questions or any detailed documentation. I have created a custom content type with CCK, added IMCE image to include an image field with my custom content, I've edited a few example nodes to include an image, they look fine (well, no, but that's a separate issue), but when I log out and view the nodes, the images are not displayed, just the path. I predict that some variable in the theme I'm using or some other module conflicts with the IMCE image module and I will probably have to tweak some code to fix this, right?
