I tried editing the page.tpl.php file yet the hearders seems to have no changes, i even tried to modifiy the existing hearder yet it remains the same when accessed.

Could you describe which page.tpl.php you modified (and what you changed) ?
And have you tried clearing the cache http://drupal.org/node/337176 ?
