Is there any way to keep a log of changes to fields of a node, as comments on the node?

eg. If I change the field called "Location" from "A" to "B" a comment is put on the node saying saying

- Location: A
+ Location: B

The way I use my nodes, they start in one state, and develop over time with lots of different people changing fields, and no easy way to look at the node itself and see all these changes and when they were applied.

exactly what I'm looking for as well! to keep a continuous track in the comments not just of comments against the node, but also and audit trail (date and user stamped) of changes to the node's actual fields...

would this be possible with a trigger/action?
