Can children degrade on page load?

I've noticed there are some mentions of this feature in the issue queue but nothing finalized. I was wondering if the children of the parent menu items can degrade back to the collapsed state when a new page is loaded or even if the user clicks outside the menu? I know this kind of goes beyond the intention of the module, but it would be nice if the menu did not stay open until manually closed.

If anyone has any ideas on this I'd appreciate it.
