incorrect paths in DB Maintenance module?

I'm trying to set the backup frequency with DB Maintenance and can't get beyond incorrect paths to tar and mysqldump. I'm using the defaults (/bin/tar and /usr/bin/mysqldump). I SSH'd in and did a whereis, and that is where they are located. However, Drupal doesn't recognize them.

I've had several emails with tech support at my host (ASO) and they can only confirm that tar and mysqldump do indeed reside there.

I've searched drupal.org, but can't find any solutions.

Help, please.
