Could you explain which elements you want to change and how?

Apart from that, I can suggest using the Firebug extension for Firefox: http://getfirebug.com/.

With it, you can easily track down every single css statement, how and when it's overwritten etc. Couldn't live without it anymore :)

There is a privatemsg-view.tpl.php in the privatemsg folder. Copy it to your theme folder and change it as you like.

Setting this to fixed as there have been no activity here for 5 weeks.
