The scheduled backup is always generated uncompressed. Also, on the Backup/Export DB tab there is no way to save options without doing a manual backup. A "Save Options" button should allow settings to be saved for automatic backups without forcing a manual backup.

The scheduled backups actually do use compression settings. Perhaps there was a timing issue causing the appearance that the settings were being ignored. It would still be nice to be able to set options without making a manual backup but this is a very minor enhancement request, not a bug.
