I would like to have a block in preface first take up preface first and middle, and then have a block in preface last. It seems non-intuitive for a block in preface last to appear in preface middle under this circumstance.

I was troubleshooting this for about an hour when I decided to populate the middle section, only then, the block was positioned in preface last.

This still happens indeed. Placing something in preface last doesn't work when the other preface regions aren't populated. In my case it is displayed at preface first because first and middle are empty.

It works well on admin/build/block but not on the rest of the site.

Ah interesting. The Fusion project sounds really great.

Quick question: Does that mean that in the nearer future no new 2.x built will be released? Not a problem for me because the .dev works fine even on a (near) production site. Just curious.

@dddave - the 2.x branch will be Fusion; what's in the 2.x-dev right now will be replaced w/ Fusion and the 1.x will eventually be phased out.
