When I try to change the height or width from the default values (450 & 300), I get an error message that says the field is required and the values are reset to the default. I also get a popup message that says "An HTTP error 0 occurred./embed-widgets/aha/preview".

This happened to me when I typed in the width or height value and then clicked enter. When I just clicked outside the box after I typed in the value, everything was fine.

Yes, you should probably wait for the AHAH callback to finish loading before submitting the form. This is just how the AHAH features of Drupal behave, even on http://api.drupal.org
