using an existing content as node profile

Hi All

Is it possible for a user to sign up and claim existing content on the site to be added to his profile.
For ex) if we have a new content type called ExtendedProfile. Let us also assume that we have populated
the ExtendedProfile information for a set of people. One person out of this set of people logs on and would
like to select/claim his existing ExtendedProfile and add it to his profile.

How can we go about doing this with node_profile?
