Best Ad Network ?
joelkriner - January 20, 2009 - 02:59
Hello,
Just wondering if anyone had any advice about which ad network I should run on my Drupal site. I heard things about BuySellAds, Ad Bard and of course Adsense.
An ideal ad network for me would have relevant advertisements to my site, is easy to install into Drupal and have excellent profit opportunities.
Any information would be great.
Thanks a ton.

What is your traffic per month, topic of site, do you want graphic, text ads, or intext ads?
Some sites will only accept you if you have a certain level of traffic, page views per month. Earning potential is determined with match of ads to content. Some markets will pay much better than others. For example with google ads, you can get people to pay $10 per click for hosting, but they will only pay like 30 cents per click for astrology.
Intext ads are easy, just install the code in your footer block.
Services like google will need a block of code to be placed in a region using a block or a special module to inject it in content area.
Best of luck.
Thanks
My senior citizen based website has traffic around 75,000 per month. I'm not locked in to anything but I was thinking about graphic ads and possibly text ads. Any ideas how much the senior market pays? If you were me, which site would you choose? Thanks a ton.
You need to know what people are interested in.
You could try senior dating site like seniorfriendfinder, or find a long term health care affiliate program, or a travel program aimed at seniors could be good, or try kontera intext ads.
It really depends on what your visitors are interested in. You need to match the ads to your content and visitor's interests.
You can use your logs to see what pages are viewed the most. You can also see what keywords they are searching for.
If you don't want to bother with matching you can use Kontera intext ads. They will be in the content and will get better click through rates than banner ads. You just put some code in the fotter of the page.
Senior Friendfinder has banner ads that you can put in your site. The payout can be quite good per sale, 60 percent of paid membershp or up to $2 per free membership.
Hope that helps you.
So you think its better to
So you think its better to match up with a few senior specific companies than to sign up with a more general ad network? Thank you.
I would
I would try and find some programs that are specific to your population. General inline ad networks work great because the ads are in the content and not as easily overlooked. You can use non inline ad networks, like Google or Yahoo if you wish. You can actually mix them on page if you wish to. The secret is to provides an experience that will not drive people away.
I would get an ad rotator for the graphic ads, so people do not tire of seeing the same ad all the time. This way you can mix the senior friendfinder ads with travel ads, with long term care ads, and any other graphic ads that you want.
It is probably best to put those right above or below the title of the page. If you have a section on travel or health, you could place ads on that topic right after the last paragraph of the article. Then people will read article and see the ad.
Intext ads have great click thought rates and the code can be placed in the gotter section, but it will appear in the body of the page.
Google ad Yahoo ads will have to have code placed where you want the ads to appear. These are context sensive. Here again, some kind or ad rotator or ad server would be good. An ad server will allow you to see which network performs the best. Also makes updating pages easier because you decided to change network. No template or page editing, just change code on the ad server.
I would start with the seniorfrienfinder or other senior dating service and intext ads. Then see what other things your people are interested in. Polls and Surveys are good for this. Add other ads where you think best and see what happens. Some will do great, and others will bomb. Just keep experimenting.
An alternative to a senior dating affiliate program is to get your own White Label Dating Site.

Since i do not know your site, I can not say what would be best fit for your site. Best of luck.
This is really valuable
This is really valuable information. thank you for your time. I am seriously considering senior friend finder and the health care you mentioned, I will have to look into the ad rotator, don't know much about that. My website name is Bargains4Seniors.com.
Have a great day VSR
Your Welcome
You could use this program to put in some affiliate links for you. Then when you has a site like netflix reviewed and at the bottom you can say, "Visit Netflix" and a link to the associate program would automatically be put in the page for you. You could check out netflix and see if they have movies people would be interested in and put a banner up in the top of the entertainment section. I thik that they pay like 8 or 10 dollars per membership. Also you might want to visit magazines dot com and see about magazines. Just a thought
Never used this module, but it sound interesting.
