if i amend the values in the 'Machine-readable name: ' field, to make the module name shorter, then click submit, i see that the value is ignored and reset back to the suggested name!

The 6.x-1.x-dev branch has been mothballed. Try the 6.x-2.x-dev release.
Closing as won't fix.
