Why are we using a standard ratio of 16x12 (4:3) when most real flags have a ratio of 2:1?
I know that the doco says different sized flags can be used, but the sort of existing standard with this module is 16x12 and it's nice to use a standard... so I'm just wondering.

Freso commentedMy current policy for flag icons, is to use the flags actual ratio, leaving it to the browser to re-scale the image to fit whatever format has been picked by the site admin (or leaving them as-is, if that's what the site admin chooses).
You're right that it's nice to have a standard, but it's also nice for the flags to actually look like themselves. :) Once #319966: Add flag icon theme selector is dealt with, there are three language icon collections waiting to go in next to it. These have a common height*width, so IMHO, it'll be alright with one collection with a variable aspect ratio.
Does this answer your question? :)

fletchgqc commentedErmm, I think so. Basically, you're trying to move towards a standard where the flags are the correct proportions but there is plenty of customisability for choosing your own flag set or resizing as desired. I'll watch attentively. Thanks.
