Is there any option to change the component of selecting the users via autocomplete for specified role?

Or it's good to replace it via CCK userreference.

I did originally use the CCK field, but there were widespread problems with installing using CCK import for the chess nodetype.
I would rather use autocomplete, but at the moment I don't know how to implement it outside of CCK fields.

Ok, I'll check it how to do that if I'll find some time.
And it will be good that on the list will be visible only logged users (or related somehow via Views, in example: your friends or specified role).
