Can anyone who has used Pair Networks' $30/month webmaster account (http://www.pair.com/services/web_hosting/webmaster.html)for a Drupal site share their impressions of the service?

I've heard great things about Pair, but also have heard that it's not necessarily the easiest/best option for Drupal sites.

If you had problems staying within their usage parameters — particularly with databases — I'd be interested in hearing about it and how you resolved the issue.

Thanks.

What about Pair is not easy or makes them not the best option?

Clustered Drupal Hosting powered by Uptimehost's Cloud.

I use their webmaster level shared hosting for a municipal government web site which delivers 10-15 thousand page views per day. I'm currently using Drupal 5, and my database size is roughly 40 MB. In the past, there were performance problems caused by other sites on the same server, but Pair Networks quickly remedied such problems. To my knowledge, I've never exceeded their utilization limits. This hosting plan is entirely satisfactory for my current needs.

I just installed Drupal on an advanced account at Pair 2 nights ago. No major issues. There are compromises in a shared hosting environment, such as limited permissions on their MySql server, lack of write access to PHP, Apache, and MySQL configuration logs, and their email list policy (you can't run your own email list on a shared server). But, they strike me as very quick and responsive and so far, seem like they'll work with you to resolve any issues, which is a way different experience from what I've had on other hosting providers.

I am in the process of trying to install Drupal on Pair right now but I keep running into a problem on the "setup database" step.

This is the error message I keep getting:

"Failed to select your database on your MySQL database server, which means the connection username and password are valid, but there is a problem accessing your data. MySQL reports the following message: Incorrect database name 'xxx_drupal '.

* Are you sure you have the correct database name?
* Are you sure the database exists?
* Are you sure the username has permission to access the database?

For more help, see the Installation and upgrading handbook. If you are unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your hosting provider."

I have clicked on "advanced options" and entered the the database host information as well. Still no luck. Any advice would be appreciated?

thank you

Have you had any luck with this? Purging the database to remedy an install problem has worked for me in the past. Make sure you enter the hostname as the database host and not "localhost", for example: db33.pair.com
