This issue is by suggestion from random_tom in comment #1 in the following issue:#364178: Phone CCK ignoring multistep.

Can't delete from node edit view - 'save' and 'next' buttons are visible but not 'delete'. This means node can only be deleted by visiting admin > content management > content

Applied patch. Everything works - good stuff.

I think it's good that the delete button is *not* hidden by default. Saves any unnecessary additional clicks to remove the node - if, like me, you're used to surfing through your content to edit it.
