Restirct the number of nodes a user can create

Hello,
I want to restrict the number of nodes of a specific node type a user can create. I've seen that nodefamily can do this, but it is not available for Drupal 6 yet..
Hope anybody can help.

It's not out for 6 yet but it's a simpler module than nodefamily, so less work to upgrade.
