I've just moved ming web server from a clone PC to an IBM X226 in the process, we needed to decide on a linux distribution that would meet our needs.

The choice boiled down to Ubuntu Linux which I must say has been a delight to install and support.

While looking for Ubuntu resources, I have come across a number of Drupal installations. These installations are attractive and utilise core Drupal features extensively;

And for those of you looking for it, I have also found an installation guide for installing Drupal on Ubuntu server.

Not to be a PITA but I am suprised you went for Ubuntu for a server. I consider Ubuntu more of a workstation linux like say Simply Mepis or the ilk. For a server I would use Debian Stable or Fedora or even better FreeBSD. Just curious why you went the Ubuntu direction for it.

Ken,

I'm a real HACK... I know enough to hold a conversation and when to shut up ;-)

My IT consultant suggested Ubuntu and I couldn't argue... Previously we had been using SME Server for almost 3 years but they have stalled on the development so a change was due...

I also have a development machine which also uses Ubuntu and it seems very friendly (to me as a novice anyway).

My company also develops embedded linux servers for building automation applications, these have micro distributions all on a chip... So in my office there are a few tools to choose from...

So... the bottom line... I do what I'm told...

One downside to those instructions is that they are for Drupal4.5 series. I suggest that you update to Drupal4.6.x. THat way you will be ready to go to 4.7 when it's out.

Russ,

Thanks for digging for the references. I liked the one listed as Drupal on Ubuntu server, http://www.umasslug.org/index.php/Drupal_on_ubuntu_server .

I went through it, but it does not install the latest release of Drupal. I did need to role back PHP5 since Drupal is not yet integrated with that. The installation procedure did this automatically. Nice.

Anyone else have a slick way of installing Drupal in Ubuntu?
