Hello,
My first drupal site is up and going now, formatting wise.
However, most likely due to all the CSS, the first page to be displayed on the site (if you haven't visited it before and thus do not have the CSS cached), is very slow. Last time I tried to open up the first page, it took 17 whopping seconds for the first page to display! All other pages then displayed almost immediately.
Thus, my question is, what can be done (or what have I done wrong), to vastly increase the speed at which the first page is displayed to new visitors who have nothing cached of my site? Am I missing a setting somewhere perhaps??
Thanks
Jim

How about a URL to your site?
A URL to you site would help others gauge the loading time.

Yeah, I guess that would be helpful. :)

It's still a work in progress, so don't expect anything too fancy yet.

Thank you everyone. It's good to know that this site template isn't slow. Was worried there for a bit. Must have had a short-term issue with my ISP
Speed report
If you're ever worried about the page loading times for your site, try using the 'Speed Report' facility in the Firefox Web Developer Toolbar (you are using Firefox, right? ;-)).
I checked out a report of your site, and it looks pretty good to me. Images and CSS are a bit over, but nothing devastating (Drupal sites often go over the recommended CSS size, mainly because of drupal.css). I'd say your site is actually faster than average as Drupal sites go.

Web Developer Toolbar
Of course I use Firefox. Can't understand why others don't!!
Thanks for the tip on the toolbar. I hadn't stumbled across that one yet over at the Firefox site yet. Very nice, handy toolbar to have.
