image displayed as an "X" on a page

hello,

Just new on using drupal and a problem I cannot seem to find the answer to...

Goal;
* I'm trying to create a page with one or more pictures on it.
* Upload a picture on a page and display the picture on that page.

Problem;
* after uploading a picture (in edit mode) I only can see an "x" where the picture should be.
* in viem mode nothing appears where the picture should be seen.

Modules used for achieving my goal;
* jwysiwyg
* image
* img_assist

Am I doing something wrong or forgetting something?
