I've just upgraded from D5 to D6. I have installed Content Profile to replace the Bio module but I can't work out how to import the Bio nodes into it. It looks like it should have happened automatically on installation, but it hasn't. Can anyone explain the process - or how I can manually important from Bio into Content Profile?

You should see your old "bio" content profile.
You just have nothing to do. Content profile takes care of everything.
Enter "content types", inside "content management", and select your profile content type, that still says is the type "bio".
Click the edit link of that content. And check it out that there´s a new collapsed item at the very end of that page called "content profile". You should see that the item "Use this content type as a content profile for users" inside it, appears as marked.
Voilá, nothing more to do so. You don´t even have to upgrade you database!
Hope it helps.

Erm... I think this post can be safely considered answered. :)

I also find this confusing. Why would you state that Content Profile is the successor to Bio when the module does nothing to migrate Bio's fields or nodes to the newly created Profile content type. So it comes as no surprise that when we go to create content under the newly upgraded site, Bio is still there and available to use as a content type, with custom fields and everything, provided you have updated CCK as well, which is confusing as I think admins would think the content type can be used.

In other words, we still have to add the custom fields we used to have added to the bio content type to the newly created Profile content type and rebuild views and listings to include this new content type as well. Hardly a migration.

You don't need to do any such thing. Just use the old bio node type with content profile. There is no advantage to going through all that work just to use the default node type.

Ok then perhaps that should be clarified in the documentaion of Content Profile. As it stands it isn't clear that we can continue using the Bio content type in the new site. Thanks for the clarification.
