user tailored emails?

Hello,

Running D6 site with Groups and lots of taxonomies, and I am looking for a solution that does basically the following:

- allows users to subscribe to receive site emails
- site will send out emails on a periodic basis (weekly probably)
- each email will contain basically a bunch of views of content from that week (views of group posts, views of post by taxo term, views by content type etc)
- allows users to manage their subscription by selecting which views (groups, terms, type etc) they want to receive
- each user would then get an email every week with only the content they have chosen to receive.
- a very nice, but not must have would allow site admins to add content as they wish to the email

New York Times and other sites have this basic functionality. It is sometimes called "tailored emails" or something like that.

SimpleNews has a digest module (http://drupal.org/project/simplenews_digest) which sends out a digest, but it isn't user configurable.
