I am going to assume this is a problem with my installation (Apache 2 running PHP 5.2 and APC) or my browser (Safari 3 on mac). The progress indicator never updates... it just stays at 0% until the successful upload message appears.

Can anyone give me guidance on where to look for a solution to this problem?

i can confirm this is a problem only on safari. i tested it on firefox and the progress indicator worked fine.

sorry to reopen this. Could it be that the upload is working in Safari not yet in dev version?

This issue has been fixed in 1.4

It was a Safari bug with a hidden element on the progress bar. I've emailed the maintainer of jquery progress bar and until he fixes this, the only usable option is to display the bar at all times.
