Using Drupal 6.9 and Pixture Reloaded theme, Smileys are enabled on Input Format and configured for most node types plus comments. The smileys box shows up and one can click on it and get the plain text equivalent, but when the page is viewed, all one sees is the plain text. The log has a bunch of

type messages, but I am logged in as the site administrator and we have permissions set to allow anyone to use smileys.
See http://www.bstw.com/node/2 in the comment about 2/3 of the way down at the end of the comment for an example.

It could be that the comments were written before enabling the smileys input filter. If so, you'll need to clear cache.
I tried to comment with some smileys and it worked pretty well for me: http://www.bstw.com/node/26#comment-10
Regarding the access denied in logs, the link is for setting the visibility of a smiley, maybe you had logged out in a separate window before setting visibility.
I must say, your website is the fastest Drupal based site I have seen lately. If you are using some cache mechanism, perhaps that could be causing original smileys problem.

Well, I cleared the cache, but that post didn't get its smiley. Actually, all the caches are turned off. None of the performance options have been turned on at this point. Brand new site, one of three going up right now on the same code base, and my first Drupal install.
I see you got them, so maybe it needs to be a new post? I even tried editing that post and saving it and still no smiley. If it works for new posts, I suppose I won't worry about it, but we'll have to see.

Gurpartap, the issue is that if the smiley is added to a page or book page which was published once already, the smiley does not appear EVEN IF the :code: is typed into the text field.
#4
Is the data in textfield filtered? And with the right input format?
#5
The observation that we are making is that if one creates a new node or comment with the smiley, then they display, but if one edits an existing node or comment and adds a smiley, then it doesn't display. See, for example, http://www.bstw.com/node/2 and the comment titled Software with useful features? Note that, as I said earlier, all performance options are turned off except page compression and I just cleared the cache again and checked and still no smiley in that comment.
#6
Have you been up to any progress with it? Don't think I'm hearing anything similar from anyone else. Could be that some specific module or setup is mismanaging the filters.

No progress since we have disabled the module as we were having so many troubles with it. If a new release comes along, we might give it another try, but at this point the value isn't worth the hassle.
