Hi, I have the subscription module which seems to work fine. I would like to set the user defaults so that new users are automatically subscribed to one of the newsletters on subscription. I can subscribe them to all newsletters but not just one. In the past there was a tickbox in the subscriptions/user defaults/categories/newsletter section where I could choose the newsletter but now there is just the message.

"This is a restricted category group; only subscribed categories show up in this list.
To subscribe to a category in this group, go to a post in that category and subscribe from there."

How can I restore that tickbox?

Thanks a lot,

Richard

Apparently you have selected the newsletter vocabulary as one of the restricted vocabularies on the form at at admin/settings/subscriptions. Presumably you did that to tidy up the user interface. However that setting also applies to the user default interface. If you temporarily remove that vocabulary from that restricted list you will be able to set user default subscriptions for the newsletters.

Hi, that works. I can now set the user defaults for new users to automatically receive the newsletter. However when I add a new user, although it says in the categories section that they are subscribed, on the front page (view) of the user account it says that there are currently no subscriptions. Are they subscribed or not?

FYI: on the manage subscriptions / my newsletters it also says that they are not subscribed and that to subscribe you would have to tick a box.

Unfortunately as I have over 200 people already subscribed to the newsletter I can't do a simple test. Any ideas?

You are in the queue of the Subscriptions module. Subscription and Simplenews are two other, completely unrelated modules. I suspect there's some confusion about what is what.

You need to set up a test site, install one module at a time, and find out what each of them does and how it fits into your plan.

If you do have questions related to the Subscriptions module, then be sure to post paths (URLs) for the pages that you're referring to.
