Rotor displays an item that is both unpublished and demoted from front page?

I find myself in the assumption that when one unpublishes an item, it will disappear from all listings.
Unfortunately rotor seems to display these items...

I feel no need to delete some items, i just need to be able to remove them from my homepage (which consists for a large part of the rotor banner) at times.

Is it me, or is the code?
