Hi

I want to add lattitude and logitudes coodinates to a custom node type and embed a simple Google Map with a marker for the location when displaying the node.

Are the Location and Gmap modules the way to go ? They seem awfully complex for my simple needs.

I think cck_map.module could be your best choice. The problem is it's for Drupal 5, but you can try the Drupal 6 patch, in its issues. I just tried that module for Drupal 5.

For Drupal 6 the best choice (without patches) I've found is what you say: Location + Gmap modules.
